Learning lessons from each version on the road to Boston, this one has some amazing eerie texturing from Peter, while Rick and Trevor growl in the darkness. Gradually picks up steam with the same ominous Prophet synth undertone throughout. Excellent display of tension-building here.
2023-09-22Thatch24:50Goose Kettlehouse Amphitheater Bonner MTWhether you think it's the JOTY or not, this "Thatch" is a seriously dense listen. Dark and percussive at first, it feels very typical for the tour but quickly heads into evil territory thanks to Rick and Peter's interplay. Spuds pivots into a charging beat at the 18th minute and they just go for it. Superlatives can't even do this peak justice - needs to be listened. Rick plays with his Whammy at the apex before they execute a perfect and towering return to the song proper. All-timer.
2023-09-28Thatch19:40Goose Wiltern, The Los Angeles CAWhile many previous versions of "Thatch" highlight an aggressive or darker jam, this LA version turns bright and contemplative after a turn of percussive play with strong Trevor and Peter underneath Rick's melodies. Hints of the Vegas "Elizabeth" to come a few days later.
2023-10-06Thatch21:09Goose Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater Morrison COContinuation of the mellower and more upbeat "Thatch" style seen at the Wiltern on 9/28. Rocking first half transitions into a quieter space that builds into an excellent peak.
2023-11-07Thatch17:47Goose Melkweg Amsterdam Peter collects a bunch of coins early on as the rhythm section destroys the minimalist funk groove. Rick pivots into triumph and the band unleashes a volcanic peak to close it out.

2024-06-05Thatch15:57Goose Factory, The Chesterfield MOCircular patterns of tension and darkness develop as Cotter's fluidity shines. Builds layers and layers of unease as Peter hits sirens and Rick gets dissonant. Amazing stuff that can be likened to a mid-90s "Stash."
2024-06-14Thatch18:16Goose Northlands Live Swanzey NHBlazing second set version sees the band lock in around Trevor's thumping and Peter's arpeggiator. Hypnotic groove develops and hits a peak but is brought to its conclusion by Rick before it can go any further.
2024-06-21Thatch17:30Goose Fox Theatre Atlanta GAYou enjoy this jam, beginning with some squishy OB-6 work from Peter and eventually shifting into a flowing rock zone that might inspire you to jump on trampolines.
2024-06-29Thatch18:54Goose Forest Hills Stadium Queens NYBig second-set version comes on the heels of a special Autumn Crossing performance. The band strips down to minimalist funk initially with Peter really going ham with delay on the clav. All five members unite as one and rip through a sustained peak section with no one person in the lead.
